There’s Not A Bulletin Board In Existence That My Mortgage Marketing Program Doesn’t Like

Yes, I love bulletin boards. Now, just so you know…I’m not talking about “electronic bulletin boards” found on the Internet. That’s a different topic for another day. I’m referring to those old fashion “cork boards” that in order to post notices require the use of push pins, thumb tacks or even staples (a bulletin board no no).

Today in some cities, bulletin board marketing is so hot that there are companies that exist for the sole purpose of providing this service to people who want their signs posted on bulletin boards. These service companies also distribute your fliers in stores and shops and post them in windows and hand them out at concerts and events. In some cases they’ll help design and plan your promotion and even write and distribute a press release for you.

If a service like this is not available, the bulletin board idea is still a winner. Just do it yourself! The cost is extremely low and your investment is only your time and energy. This is still one of the all time great origination ideas for Mortgage Professionals and the returns are great.

Here are a few things to think about if you’re considering about implementing your bulletin board marketing program:

1. Every townhouse and condominium complex has a bulletin board. Your job, should you wish to accept it, is to find the location of that bulletin board and gain access to it. You may find it in a common laundry area or even located within the clubhouse or pool area. If so, you may need permission to gain access and post your notice. Have no fear…you’ll find that this is rarely denied.Remember, you’re providing a valuable financial service to the residents and the complex itself.

2. Apartment complexes also have bulletin boards. Unfortunately, you probably won’t be welcomed with open arms since you’re really trying to help qualified renters move out of the complex. But, I have on occasion found a forward thinking property manager that allowed my notices to be posted. Their logic: They can’t prevent qualified renters from looking at home ownership as an option…so, why not allow the postings. Don’t forget to remind the property manager that you track your leads and that you never forget the source of where those mortgage leads come from. I’m continually amazed at the good things that can happen when you just ask.

3. Bulletin boards can be found in hospitals, fire and police stations, Laundromats, supermarkets, local building supply stores (Are there any left?), plumbing supply, electrical supply, bookstores, company employee lounges, waiting areas, your local Dunkin Donuts (mine has a great one), and a myriad of other locations where people happen to congregate.

4. Every business has a bulletin board and it may be accessible by employees only. Should that be the case, ask an employee or the manager to post for you. Remember, you’re providing a valuable service not only to their employees but to the company as well. All companies want to retain their good employees and home ownership and/or good financing guarantees they’ll stay in the area for the foreseeable future.

5. The notice that you post needs to be on the small side. A full page flier is usually too big as it over powers and dominates the bulletin board. You’ll probably find full page fliers removed within minutes of their placement, so don’t even go there. Half page fliers are better and postcard size fliers (Avery postcards 4.25″ X 5.5″) are the ideal size. You could thumb tack multiple business cards or cards especially designed with your message however, your message size is severally restricted and your response will be low using this size.

6. The best responses come from fliers that have a multiple “tear offs” at the bottom. You’ve seen them and probably torn one off and placed it in your wallet or purse as a reminder to call. This extends the life of your little flier as it won’t disappear with the first person interested in your offer.Yes, it’s a pain to set up initially, but once it’s done, it’s done forever. Your little flier is ready to work for you for many months and years to come.

7. Lastly, visit your bulletin boards on a regular basis and treat them well. Replace notices that show wear (and tear :-) and those with only a couple tear offs remaining with brand new ones.

You’ve worked hard to gain access to your bulletin boards…maintain them well…and, you’ll be surprised at how well they will reward you and your mortgage business with good solid mortgage leads.

Quilling Tools – Make Your Own Work Board & Design Guide

If you are going to make more than just one or two pieces of quilling, you owe it to yourself to purchase one of the quilling work boards and design guides that are currently available. These are quality boards made of dense self-healing cork or durable foam that are sturdy and made to last for years. The design guide helps you keep your quills straight during assembly, which is very important when working with symmetrical patterns such as snowflakes. However, if you are working with a group (Scout troop, church group, craft club, etc.), it is not always practical to purchase each member their own quilling work board and design guide. You can make them instead.

A simple, temporary quilling board can be made from any sturdy sheet of cork board, plastic foam, corrugated cardboard, or other similar material. A nice size is 6″ x 8″, but use what you have. For my quilling classes, I have taken inexpensive 12″ x 12″ cork squares, cut them into four 6″ x 6″ squares, and edged them with masking tape. These work very well, and if one happens to get away from me, it can easily be replaced. Go green with a quilling work board made from corrugated cardboard cut from a box that was headed for the trash. When it has too many holes to be useful, just place it in the recycling bin.

Wax paper makes a serviceable cover sheet for your work board. It is handy and certainly cheap enough, however, if too much glue is used and the quillwork is accidentally glued to the wax paper, the wax may come up with the design when it’s removed. I prefer to use clear plastic sheets cut from scrap (think old office sheet protectors and transparencies) or recycled plastic packaging. Even heavy-duty food baggies will work. You can either pin the work board cover in place, or wrap it around and tape it to the back. To use, simply slip your quilling pattern underneath the cover sheet (plastic or wax paper), pin it in place, and assemble your quilled masterpiece over the pattern.

For symmetrical work, a design guide can be created from a piece of graph paper cut to fit your quilling work board. Count the squares horizontally and vertically to find the center point of your graph paper. Using a ruler and black pen or fine-tip marker, draw a vertical and horizontal line that cuts through the center point to divide your graph paper into fourths. This will give you 90 degree angles. Next, using the lines of the graph paper as your guide, draw an “X” on the paper that runs through the center point and bisects the quarters. This will give you 45 degree angles. Continue to draw lines running through the center point to divide your paper into as many sections as needed for your pattern. Circles can be added to the guide with the aid of a compass or circle template. Be sure to center the circles on your guide using the intersection point of the lines as the center of the circles.

Cork Flooring & Your Pets

As a pet owner trying to update the flooring in your home some general concerns will arise about what will be the most durable surface you can purchase. Flooring that can withstand claws nails and scratching is an ideal factor as well as one that will be easy to keep clean and not allow your home to become smelly or dirty.  This article has been written to help the home and pet owner see why cork flooring may be the best option in updating their home.

One of the most endearing factors of cork flooring is its natural healthy properties.  Suberin, a chemical found naturally in cork, makes the material anti microbial, anti fungal and moisture resistant, as well as naturally pest repellent.  What this means is that your cork flooring will not grow any mold or mildew or allow any type of germ spreading microorganisms live or breed in your flooring.  This is a great characteristic when you have animals that go outdoors and carry in all sorts of dirt or critters.  Moisture resistance is another quality of cork flooring that works well when having animals as they sometimes have accidents indoors, spill their water dishes or again can track in moisture from outside.  Cork flooring in comparison to carpet is a better choice because carpet will hold in dust dirt and dander, in turn causing discomfort to those who suffer from allergies.

As a very durable material you can feel confident that cork flooring will be a safe choice even if your pet has claws or nails.  You may think of a cork board when you think of cork flooring but the flooring itself is coated with several layers of a protective urethane coating that will aid in its durability while providing a seal and shine.  It is always recommended when having cats with claws to provide them with a scratching post to use for their natural claw sharpening instincts.  With dogs regular nail clipping will keep their length and sharpness to a minimum well aiding in their general health as well.

Cork Flooring: Live, Learn, Love

I think cork has quite a few positive attributes, but at the same time it can be the biggest pain! So what exactly is cork? Cork is harvested from the second layer of trees, under the bark, but before you make it to the hard interior rings. We most likely first interact with cork in a classroom on a regular cork board. Maybe your mom had one mounted on the wall of your kitchen for bills and shopping lists? Nowadays cork is used for flooring as well as tackable surfaces.

Cork flooring is considered a “rapidly renewable” flooring choice because it has a growth/harvest cycle less than 10 years. It is important to keep in mind that over 90% of the world’s cork supply is harvested in Portugal. So while one of the biggest positives of choosing cork is the fast growth, it also has to travel long distances, so the embodied energy of the end product is higher. That is why it is always important to keep in mind that a first choice that reads “super sustainable” from the outside products (like bamboo and cork) can actually have negative impacts as well.

Cork flooring is laid as either as roll goods (normally 6 feet wide) or as 12×12 tiles. The first generation of cork tile was prefinished, meaning each individual tile was finished with sealer before laid on the floor. This caused problems because there was not a final seal to lock out moisture. A few years back, the manufacturers changed their tune and now tiles get one set of sealer after it is stained (cork can be stained a rainbow of colors) before its laid, and then it gets a final seal when laid and in place. It is possible to replace individual tiles but it does not look as smooth.

Another positive attribute of cork is its ability to absorb sound. It is substantially quieter than standard wood flooring but still harder (and louder) than carpet. Just keep in mind that it is a natural material, therefore it is porous and soft. I learned the hard way that providing plenty of surface area on the feet of furniture is important. Otherwise, you can end up with a dimpled floor. There is a lot of opportunity to create intricate patterns and depth with cork – it is soft, so it is easy to cut and install. Just be sure to ask for a no VOC (volatile organic compound) adhesive and sealant!

So cork has many attributes, so good, some not so good. But it is always important to do your own research for your particular application. Good luck getting “corky”.

Cork Flooring Consumer Questions & Answers

So you’re in the market to purchase new flooring but still have a few questions.  In hopes of helping make your decision that much clearer, here are some frequently asked questions and answers on the topic of cork flooring.

Q:  Is cork a recycled material?

A: Cork flooring is made from the bark of the cork oak tree.  After harvesting the first item produced from the haul are corks.  The remaining pieces are used for things like flooring, cork boards and other types of commonly used cork items.

Q:  Is cork flooring a new type of flooring?

A:  No.  Cork flooring has been around for centuries and is popular in Europe. It is in some very well known buildings as well; such as the Mayo Clinic and The First Congressional Church.

Q:  Will wearing or walking on it with high heels damage it?

A:  Cork flooring can withstand a lot of pressure and compression and will return to its original state.  The flooring also comes with a coating that will furthermore add protection.

Q:  What if there is a chip in my floor? Can I fix it myself?

A:  Yes you can.  Take a scrap tile and sand it down to create a dust.  Then mix it with some poly urethane to form putty like mixture and fill in the damaged area.  Once dry coat the area with a layer of the poly urethane by itself and let dry.

Q:  Do I need to wax or refinish my floor?

A:  Depending on the type of sealer used on the floor it is best to see the manufactures instructions.  Some only need a waxing once a year others need nothing but general upkeep of seeping and mopping.

Q:  Can I use cork flooring over radiant heat?

A:  Yes you can.  It may take a little longer to penetrate but heats evenly and will hold in the warmth as well.

Q:  I own an apartment building and am looking to replace the flooring in my hallways.  Would cork work well in this area?

A:  Definitely.  As a natural noise inhibitor it would work great on sound reduction of people going in and out while providing a durable surface to stand up to consistent traffic.

Q:  How do I keep my cork flooring clean?

A:  All you need is a mild ph balanced detergent and a damp mop to keep your floor clean.  Mopping done as needed and regular sweeping is necessary as gravel and crumbs could eventually damage the surface.  Clean up any spills immediately.

Comparing Ghent Bulletin Boards by Style

When it comes to shopping, perhaps the notion of buying a new bulletin board is a far cry from the fun of searching for a new car or that perfect new outfit. But bulletin board shopping doesn’t have to be dull especially when it comes to boards produced by Ghent, an Ohio-based manufacturer. In fact, sorting through the different varieties of bulletin boards can be somewhat difficult. This article will give an overview of some of the different bulletin boards Ghent makes. We think you’ll find them interesting and that your bulletin board shopping experience will be more interesting than you thought it would be.

Ghent Heavy-Duty Cork Boards

These boards are some of the best boards Ghent makes and they’re great for use in a wide variety of office settings. These boards are available in several different sizes and they all have self-healing surfaces so your board won’t get marred by ugly pin holes. All of the Ghent heavy-duty boards have a strong aluminum frame and come with a 10-year guarantee.

Ghent Heavy-Duty Vinyl Tackboards

Maybe the words “vinyl” and “bulletin boards” don’t seem like they belong together, but when it comes to Ghent products, they certainly do. These heavy-duty vinyl bulletin boards are perfect for places where bulletin boards are often used, such as classrooms. Available in 12 fashionable colors, vinyl covered bulletin boards are designed to stand up to a lot of use. Plus, their burlap texture is great at disguising pin holes. Like the heavy-duty cork boards, the vinyl boards come with a 10-year guarantee, so you know you’re getting a sturdy product.

Ghent Medium-Duty Cork Bulletin Boards

These bulletin boards are some of the most versatile boards produced by this manufacturer. They come in many different sizes, have self-healing surfaces, and are perfect for all types of settings including conference rooms, offices, and break rooms. Ghent medium-duty cork boards are available in three different finishes: fabric, embossed foam, and colored cork. There’s definitely a medium-duty board that will enhance your office and make your workday more productive.

Ghent Medium-Duty Vinyl Bulletin Boards

Essentially a lighter-duty version of Ghent’s heavy-duty vinyl bulletin boards, these surfaces are great for offices, meeting rooms, and anywhere else that needs a self-healing, washable bulletin board. Like their heavy-duty counterparts, these medium-duty boards can lend your office a designer look because there are nine great color choices available, as well as three wood finishes if you’d like a more traditional look. You can also get these boards with a magnetic whiteboard finish, if you so desire.

Ghent Light-Duty Cork Boards and Pedestal Cork Boards

These are the least durable boards Ghent sells and they’re really good for areas that need a simple bulletin board. These light-duty cork boards have a durable surface that’s self-healing, and they’re backed by a ten-year guarantee. They come in aluminum and wood frames so you can choose which one would look best in your office. Finally, the Pedestal Cork Bulletin Board is an 18″ x 24″ portable board that can be moved to wherever it is you need to communicate your ideas. The pedestal can be lengthened from 49″ to 66″ tall, so you can be sure that everyone will seen your message.

Making Mission Boards With Movie Maker

Here’s a mini-tutorial of how you can set up your own movie that sends you a powerful sound + visual message of what you want. These projects take a few hours to create properly. However when they are done you can watch them every morning for 1-2 minutes. They will keep your goals fresh in your mind. I would even encourage you to throw in some “uplifting” music in your movie so you have a positive song in your head as you go about your day.

You will need:

•    Pictures of what you want to attain. If you want a 3.5 million dollar home, find a picture that resembles your dream house as much as possible. If you are looking for a partner, then find pictures that trigger powerful feelings and emotions of love when you see them (so what you can be in that state throughout your day and attract others who are looking for it).

•    Windows Movie-Maker, Cyberlink Power Director 7 or Camtasia. Any program that lets you hash up music and pictures to make a movie or slide show. Movie-Maker is very easy to use. If you have any problems at all, simply do a keyword-search on YouTube and you will find all the help you need.

•    Imagination and Inspiration!

What you are doing here is you are creating a slide show with the appropriate music so that when you watch this 2-minute movie you will remind yourself of your goals.

This is what Claude Bristol refers to as: “Suggestion is Power.” In his book The Magic of Believing he encourages individuals to write their goals on a small cue-card or business card and keep it in front of them at all times.

Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret encourages people who have very specific goals to keep them in front of their eyes throughout the day. In this documentary about the Law of Attraction, John Assaraf talks about Vision Boards. Much like the movie explained above, a Vision Board is a cork-board with all kinds of pictures tacked to it that represent what you want and the accomplishments you want to see fulfilled in your life by you.

Don’t limit yourself with what you think is impossible to attain. If you are constantly in a state of elation because you are working at what you love; great opportunities will find you.

A Review Of The Coors Banquet Dart Board And Dart Cabinet

Description: Find out more about the Coors Banquet Dart Board and see if it is right for you at this time. Please read our unbiased review of the Coors Banquet Dart Board.

If you are designing your bar then you might consider the Coors dart board. This dart board comes with many features and will give your bar or game room the perfect touch. Many of the features include the Coors logo, timberland finish, dartboard and darts, cabinet, and more.

If you have a bar or a game room then you cannot forget about the dart board. You might even want to buy a couple of them. People love to play darts and they are a favorite past time in most bars today.

Many people often have tournaments too. You might think about calling some of the other local bars in the area to find out about teams and tournament play so your customers can get on a league if they are interested. A dart board is a must for any bar or game room.

The best feature of the Coors dart board is that the board and the cabinet come together. When people are not playing darts then the cabinet can be closed to hide the dart board. The cabinet looks classy hanging up on the wall. There is a place inside the cabinet to place the darts so they do not get misplaced also. You can put a lock on the cabinet to make sure the darts don’t go missing or you can have the bartender hold onto them.

The Coors dart board cabinet is made with a medium Timberland finish. The wood is beautiful and adds a touch of class to your bar. Often times bar owners don’t want the look of a dart board in their bar because it doesn’t look good on the wall. The wood looks very nice and the cabinet looks good in any bar. The cabinet is 22 x 25 and won’t take up too much space on the wall of your bar or game room.

What people love the most about this dart board is the Coors logo right across the front of the cabinet painted nicely and professionally. It will go perfect in any bar because everyone serves Coors beer. People will ask you where you found it because they will want one too. The cabinet doors open up and display full color logos presented above the scoreboards on each of the inside of the cabinet doors.

The dartboard is made of bristle and not cork. This is another benefit because you don’t have to worry about a cork board that damages easily with wire trimming. Wire trimming can cause problems when playing darts and the darts will ricochet against the wire and hit the floor. The bristle is perfect for the darts to stick to the board. Two sets of darts are also included with this Coors dart board.

There are many features included with the Coors dart board. The biggest benefit is how nice it looks when installed on your wall. Your customers will be happy that you gave them something to do. You might even begin to draw in new customers because of the added sport or activity in your bar.
